Steuben-Republican Apr/May 1904 AMY SAMS GLEASON ( 23 April 1820- 26 April 1904 ) Amy Sams was born in Perry Township, Richland County, Ohio, and died near Wing, Illinois, April 26, 1904, age 85 years and 3 days. December 19, 1837, she was married to Porter Gleason. Three years later they moved to Jackson Township, Steuben County, Indiana. She was the mother of nine children, Adam H., Amos M., Lydia M., Myron M., James P., R. Ellen, Benoni P., Eoline and Wakefield B. She was also mother to her nephew, Dudley Marsh, from infancy to manhood. Her husband died June 6, 1880, at the age of 64 years. Since her husbands death, she has made her home with James and Ellen. The children that survive her are James P., R.Ellen, Benoni P., and Wakefield B., also 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. At the age of fourteen, she united with the M.E. Church and later with her husband joined the Christian Church. She lived to see all her children accept their Savior. Her beautiful Christian life was a comfort and stay in her declining years. She has now joined her husband, five children and nephew on the other shore. Funeral services were held in the Christian Church in Angola, on Friday, April 29 conducted by Prof. Fairfield.
