JOSEPH A. GILBERT, 02 Aug 1825 - 04 Mar 1904

   Joseph A. Gilbert was born in Adams county, Pa., Aug. 2, 1825, and died 
at his home in Otsego township, March 4, 1904, aged 78 years, 7 months and 
2 days.
   He moved with his parents to Portage county, Ohio, when quite young; 
was married to Martha Ann Forder, Feb. 28, 1850, and moved to Steuben 
county shortly after.  To this union were born six children, three dying 
in infancy, and his wife dying Jan. 26, 1859.  He was again united in 
marriage to Emily A. Case, Feb. 17, 1861.  To this union were born three 
children, his second wife dying April 12, 1884.  He leaves to grieve over 
his departure six children, twenty-three grandchildren, two great- 
grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends, with his brothers in 
the Masonic order at Angola of which he has been a member for 38 years.
   A believer, and in his late sickness confessed his faith in the Christ 
and hoped to be with Him in the great eternity.  A great number of fellow 
Masons took part in their usual burial services.  A host of relatives and 
friends gathered at the old homestead to pay a tribute of the respect to 
sturdy citizenship.  Elder Frank D. Wersing, of Angola, delivered the 
funeral address Sunday morning at 10:30.

(Forder) Gilbert, 28 Jul 1833 - 26 Jan 1859.  They are buried at North 
Otsego Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.  Joseph was the son of John C. 
F. Gilbert, 06 Nov 1794 - 30 Apr 1861, and Mary (Bachman) Gilbert, 01 Mar 
1796 - 16 Jan 1885.  They are buried at North Otsego Cemetery.

   Alonzo Gilbert, 1851 - 1922, married Jane (________) Gilbert, 1855 - 
1934, buried at South Scott Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.
   George W. Gilbert, 1852 - 1854, buried at North Otsego Cemetery.
   Marietta Gilbert, 1854 -  ? , (infant) buried at North Otsego Cemetery.
   Almira Gilbert (twin), 1856 - ? (infant) buried at North Otsego 
Cemetery.
   Alvira (Josetta in Cem. Bk)(Gilbert) Fee, (twin) 1856 - 1932, on 24 Jul 
1877, married Francis K. Fee, 06 Jul 1854 - 1912.  Francis was the son of 
John Fee, 13 Oct 1810 - 02 Apr 1873, the oldest settler in Otsego 
Township, and Mary Ann (Houlton) Fee, 04 May 1811 - 06 Feb 188?.
   Sarah Florence (Gilbert) Bender, 1858 - 16 Mar 1913, on 15 Feb 1877, 
married Truman B. Bender, 1848 - 1913.  They are buried at Hamilton 
Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.

MARRIED 2nd, Emily A. (Case) Gilbert, 14 Jan 1835 - 12 Apr 1884, buried at 
North Otsego Cemetery.
CHILDREN OF 2nd MARRIAGE:
   Alton J. Gilbert, 1865 - 1935, on 14 Apr 1888, married Ada M. 
(Healey/Headley) Gilbert, 1866 - 1938.  They are buried at South Scott 
Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. 
   Victor Lafayette Gilbert, 01 Nov 1867 - May 1945, on 15 Jan 1887, 
married Sarah H. (Slaybaugh) Gilbert, no other information.
   Verna I. (Gilbert) Slack, 1869 - 1940, on 14 Jan 1888, married Edgar O. 
Slack, 1864 - 1941.  They are buried at South Scott Cemetery.
