Steuben-Republican 1 March 1922 P. 3 Harriett Gilbert was born in Steuben County, Indiana October 19, 1842, died at her home near Metz, February 20, 1922, age 79 years 4 months and one day. She was one of a family of 8 children being the daughter of Ferman and Permelia Case. The father died when she was but 3 years of age leaving the Mother the responsibility of caring for the family which duty she nobley preformed. Mrs. Gilberts life has nearly all been spent in this county and in early life, she was one of the teachers of this county. She is the last one of the family to pass to the great beyond. On February 27, 1862, she was married to Sylvester Gilbert who died August 3, 1906. To this union were born three children, Clarence, who died May 1, 1896, Hugh Gilbert of Metz and Mrs. Dora Chisholm of Metz. Mrs. Gilbert united with the Church of Christ at Metz 56 years ago and has always been faithful to one in whom she trusted. Altho, deprived of the privilage of attending services for sometime, she was always interested in welfare of those around her. She was ready and willing to go, often expressing a desire that she might do so. All through her illness she was patient and uncomplaining and at the last she fell asleep just as she had many times expressed a desire to do and the Master said "it is enough, come home." She leaves to mourn their loss, the son and daughter and their families and a large circle of friends and acquaintances. May these thoughts comfort those who are bereft. "A breath of prayer in our sorrow, means comfort and peace and rest, a breath of prayer in our doubtings, assures us the Lord knows whats best." Sent in by J. A. Childers
