James A. George
Died, Dec. 1, 1870 at Pleasant Lake, Ind. James A., son of Capt. S. B. and
Maria George age 28 years. Early in life, when but 16 years of age,
he enlisted in Co. H. 74th Reg. Ind. Vol., and joined the regiment at the
front. Though but a mere child, he endured all the hardships and privations
of that long and notable campaign, the siege of Atlanta and Sherman’s
march to the sea. Honorably discharged at the close of the war he came
home. Later, he went west then came back home because of poor health.
