MARY EMMA (SCHINDLER) GAY, 16 Jul 1857 - 22 Dec 1932 Emma Schindler, daughter of David and Mary Schindler, was born in Holmes County, Ohio, July 16, 1857, and died at her home in Orland, Ind., Dec. 22, 1932, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 6 days. Her early life was spent in Ohio when in 1873, she was married to Henry Gay, to which union were born Charles of Hartwick, Iowa; Laura McKibben, of Orland; Will, of Jackson, Mich.; Mary Murray, of Marshall, Mich.; Frank, of Angola; Samuel, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Louis, of Angola; Grace Taylor, of Bronson, Mich., and Leo, who died Sept. 24, 1893, at the age of 2 months and 14 days. In 1879, she moved with her husband and family from Ohio to Indiana where she lived the remainder of her life in and near Orland, having joined the Congregational church here about 25 years ago. She was a tireless worker of a fine Christian character, always forgetting self and laboring for others. In spite of many years of very poor health she was devoted to the care of her home and loved ones to the last day. Her greatest pleasure was found in the performing of her duties to her family and friends. To mourn her passing, remain her sorrowing husband, her 5 sons and three daughters with their wives and husbands, her 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, her two brothers, Alfred Schindler, of California, and Charles Schindler, of Ohio, and many other relatives and a host of friends. HENRY GAY The grim reaper again visited the home of one well known in the community last week, when Mrs. Henry Gay was stricken during Wednesday night and failed to answer the call to awake. She had not been well for several weeks, but was about her work on Wednesday and was counted no worse than usual. In her going the family and community mourn the loss of a good and faithful mother, wife, grandmother and a true friend and neighbor. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Orland on Saturday afternoon at 2:00, and were largely attended. Rev. Lester C. Wisner officiating, with burial in Greenlawn, east of Orland. Those from out of town attending were Will Gay and family of Jackson, Mich.; Sam Gay and wife, of Ann Arbor; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Murray, of Marshall, Mich.; their daughter and husband, of Detroit; Charles Gay and Luther parks, of Hartwick, Iowa; Frank Gay and wife; Lew Gay and wife, of Angola; Byron Pence and wife, of Pleasant Lake, Perry Lewis Gay, Angola; Paul McKibben and wife and James Henry McKibben, of Wald Lake, Mich.; Willis Harmon and wife, of Angola; Prof. L. M. Kindy and wife, of Goshen.
