From the Steuben Republican of September 19, 1900:
John Herman Elliott was born near
Rochester,
New York, April 26, 1828, and died at Lake Gage, Indiana, September 13,
1900, aged 72 years, 5 months and 16 days. He moved from New York
at the age of 2 years to Ohio where he lived until he was 19 years old,
when he moved to Steuben County, Indiana, where he has lived ever
since.
He was united in marriage to Avis Naomi LaRue,
February 19, 1854, to whom were born six children, George P. Elliott,
of
Hebron, Nebraska, Granville, Alphonso and Hattie, of Three Rivers,
Michigan,
and Henry and John who are living at the home at Lake Gage.
He was a kind and loving husband and father
and will be sadly missed by relatives and friends everywhere. The
funeral took place at Lake Gage Saturday, September 15, C.S. Medbury
officiating.
