John Gibson Davis, who came to Hays Kansas recently from Indiana died
Monday,
September 21, 1903 at 6 a.m. Funeral services were held in the Methodist
church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. A. N. See,
Presiding Elder of Ellsworth District, assisted by the Rev. Brown of the
Presbyterian Church. Mr. Davis was born near New Castle, Lawrence
County, Pennsylvania April 3, 1830. At the age of 19, he came to Wood
County, Ohio. Five years later, he ws united in marrige with Miss Rhoda
Hunt and soon after he and his wife moved to Indiana and took up
residence near Angola in Steuben County, where they lived many years.
Finally they moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where they remained until
their home was broken up by the death of his wife which occurred about
three years ago in Pasadena, California where she had gone to visit their
three children who reside there.
Mr. Davis was a man of more than ordinary intelligence, ever keeping
himself well informed upon all important events, and questions relating
to government and social life of the times in which he lived. He
possessed a sunny disposition, retaining a youthful spirit to the close
of life. He had abiding faith in Christ and His Gospel and always took
active interest in Church work. His last illness was of a malignant type
and of long duration attending by conditions which were very trying
indeed, but he bore it all with patience. He leaves five children, two
sons and three daughters to mourn their loss, three of whom reside in
Pasadena, California, one in the eastern part of Washington and Mrs.
Rush, wife of Rev. Rush, pastor of the Methodist Church in this city.
