At his home in Scott township, Steuben county,
Ind., May 9, 1895, Daniel
H. DAVIS, aged 75 years, 9 months and 19 days.
Deceased was born in Gloucester, Gloucestershire,
England, Feb. 20, 1820
and in 1850 was joined in marriage with Elizabeth YATES, also a native
of
England. In February, 1853 they came to the United States and
lived about
eighteen months in Pittsburgh, Pa., then moved to Portage county, Ohio,
where
they lived twelve years, coming to Steuben county in 1866, and resided
here
continuously until his death. His wife died Jan. 11, 1892, leaving
one son
and two daughters, who, with two grandsons, mourn their loss.
Mr. Davis was
known for his strict business integrity, his word being good as his
bond, and
he thus proved himself worthy of the honor and esteem in which he was
held by
the community in which he lived. Funeral services were held at
the North
Otsego M.E. church, May 11th, conducted by the Masonic fraternity,
of which
he was a member; sermon by Elder D.C. Hanselman.

Steuben County, not Scott Township. Daniel Hale DAVIS was born
February 8,
1820, not February 20, 1820. Daniel Hale DAVIS was born in Cambridge,
Gloucestershire, England, not in Gloucester. Daniel's parents
were Joseph
and Elizabeth DAVIS, Elizabeth's parents were Thomas and Hannah (PARKER)
YATES. Daniel and Elizabeth were married January 28, 1850 at the Parish
Church, in the Parish of Edgbaston, Edgbaston, Warwickshire, England.
They
had one son, Harry Davis, born and died in 1851 in the town of Aston,
Warwickshire, England.
