STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, 21 DEC 1887, p8, c4 GEORGE WASHINGTON CLOSSON, 08 JAN 1816 - 12 DEC 1887 George W. Closson was born in Genoa township, Delaware county, Ohio, Jan. 8, 1816. Uncle George, as he was often called, was one of Steuben county's pioneers, having removed here from Ohio in 1852, and by industry and frugality gathered around him many of the comforts of life. Honest and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men, a kind and hospitable neighbor, a true and helpful friend to those in neeed, is the record of his life, and when the "summons came to go, he went not as a quarry slave scourged to his dungeon, but as one who wrapped the drapery of his couch about him and lay down to pleasant dreams." His funeral was held at the Universalist church at Pleasant Lake, conducted by Rev. N. Crary, of Hicksville, Ohio.
