KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY, ANGOLA, STEUBEN COUNTY, INDIANA. BETSEY (BUMP) CLARK, 14 JAN 1808 - 26 Mar 1878 ANOTHER PIONEER GONE Mrs. Betsy Clark, of Pleasant Lake, widow of the late Dr. Alonzo P. Clark, died Tuesday evening, March 29th ult., at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. L. I. Matson, in the 71st year of her age. She had long been a resident of Pleasant Lake and was widely known and highly esteemed. Mrs. Clark was born in Madison county, in the State of New York, January 14, 1808. She moved to this county with her husband, Dr. Clark, and family, in October, 1836, and has since resided, the most of the time, where they settled in Steuben township, where their children were reared. Dr. Clark died at the old homestead eleven years ago this spring. Since his death, the old lady has resided with her children. Her children surviving her, are Mrs. B. B. Long, of Waterloo, Mr. Omer I. Clark and Mrs. L. I. Matson, of Pleasant Lake. Her funeral took place from Mr. Matson's residence last Thursday, Rev. W. P. Aylsworth, of Angola, preaching the funeral sermon. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from Waterloo as well as from the place of her home and vicinity. Besides being greatly missed and mourned by her children and grand children in this part of the country, her death also makes another vacant place in the now rapidly diminishing circle of the old pioneers and early settlers of this county.
