Steuben-Republican May 1886

        Near Six Corners, Michigan May 4, 1886, Mrs. Sarah Carpenter, 
aged 54 years,11 months and 4 days. Sarah Ann Sams, daughter of David 
and Elizabeth Sams, was born in Richland County, Ohio, June 1, 1831, and 
came with her parents to Steuben County in August 1835.  She was married 
to Alexander Carpenter in the spring of 1859.  She became a member of 
the M.E. Church early in life and has ever been a steadfast, earnest 
christian.  About eight years ago she moved to Michigan with her three 
daughters.  Three years ago last December, she was stricken with 
paralysis, and has since been almost helpless, only having the use of
one hand.  April 27, the final stroke came, but it found her ready and 
glad to go.  She leaves three daughters, four brothers, one sister and 
an aged mother to mourn her death.
