Died -- On Wednesday last in Steuben Township, this county, Mr. Malcon Bennett, aged about fifty years.  The subject of the above notice was a private in company K, 44th Indiana Regiment, and was one of the first to enroll his name when that company was forming in this county.  Although old, he believed it his duty to go forth in the defense of his country.  He was in the battles of Donelson and Shiloh, and behaved himself with great gallantry.  He was taken sick a few days after the battle at Shiloh and was brought home, but the comforts of home and friends could not stay the inroads which disease had made in his already feeble constitution.  Only a few weeks since one of his sons fell in defense of his country and his wish was, if he could only avenge the death of his child.  He was buried on Thursday last with military honors.
