Richland Twp. occupies the southeastern corner of Steuben County.
It is 6 miles from north to south, and 2 1/2 miles east to west (10,000 acres).

May, 1839, Richland Twp. was separated from Otsego Twp. of which it had formerly been a part

First house was erected by Robert JACKMAN in early 1836
First frame house built by Gera GOODALE in 1843
First church was the Methodist Episcopal formed in 1850
First preacher was Elder STEALY. Elder TOWN also preached some.
First mill built in 1842 by Horatio E. GORDON
