- located in the northwestern corner of Steuben County
- six miles east to west, 4 miles north to south (15,000 acres)
- Lake Gage, Lake Pleasant, Belle Lake, Tamarack Lake
- first settled in 1834, known as the "Vermont
Settlement"
- Spring 1834, John STOCKER, father of L.H. STOCKER, prospected
to Orland from
Windham Co. Vermont
- chose Orland for name of town by having first postmaster,
Colonel Alexander CHAPIN opening hymn book
- first white child born was Sarah L. PIERCE daughter of
Benjamin PIERCE b. Nov. 10, 1834 she later married Alsinus
