James M. Ferguson, 80, of Knightstown, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. Born May 20, 1923, in Rush County, he was the son of Samuel and Lillie (Vogel) Ferguson, both deceased. He married Doris Adams on July 10, 1943; she survives. Mr. Ferguson lived south of Mays until 1968, when he moved to Florida. He moved back to Indiana and located in the Knightstown area in 1981. He worked for GTE for 18 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of Center Christian Church, where he had been a deacon. He was a past member of the Raleigh F&AM. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Bill of Hahira, Ga., John of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Tom Ferguson of Rush County; one daughter, Diane (Mrs. Tom) John of Shelby County; two brothers, Howard of Dayton, Ky. and Charles Ferguson of Fort Myers, Fla.; one sister, Emalene Stearns of Connersville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with Bill Worrell officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Rush County. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions are requested to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, or the American Cancer Society.
