J.D. "Jake" Carpenter, 75, of Rushville, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at
his residence. Born Sept. 21, 1927, in Laurel, he was the son of Jones
and Katie B. (Rose)
Carpenter, both deceased. On Aug. 23, 1952, he married Nadine Griffin;
she survives. Mr. Carpenter had lived in Rush and Franklin counties his
entire life. He retired in 1989 from Hydro-Conduct in Shelbyville after
25 years of service. Survivors in addition to his wife include 10 sons,
Steve Carpenter (and wife Rhonda) of Shelbyville, Derrick Carpenter (and
wife Billie) of Laurel, and Dennis Carpenter (and wife Dee), Jay
Carpenter, Eric Carpenter, Jeff Carpenter, Duane Carpenter (and wife
Edith), Tim Carpenter (and wife Bobbi Jo), Brian Carpenter (and wife
Heather), and Chris Carpenter (and wife Bobbi), all of Rush County;
three daughters, Brenda (Mrs. Robert) Newman and Beth Scott, both of
Rushville, and Karrie (Mrs. Calvin Miller) Carpenter of Indianapolis;
three brothers, Bert Carpenter of Connersville, Charles Carpenter of
Shelbyville, and Donald Carpenter of Andersonville; one sister, Shirley
(Mrs. Robert) Perez of Russell Springs, Ky.; 24 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by
one brother and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1
p.m. Wednesday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, with Pastor Garry
Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel North Cemetery in Laurel.
