Firth A. Shelpman
Firth A. Shelpman, 71, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born near Versailles on February 22, 1937 and grew up in the home of Lee and Mary Ann Firth Strubbe. He was married to Karla Naegele on November 26, 1971 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son Fred (Ann) Shelpman of Cross Plains; one daughter, Dawndalyn (Rob-ert) StMichel of Hayes, VA. and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Shelpman was a 1956 graduate of Versailles High School. He had worked as a meat cutter in the Purdum grocery store in Versailles and also at Braley’s Clover Leaf Store. He retired from the teamsters as a truck driver hauling heavy equipment.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to F.A.M.E. or the Ronald McDonald House in care of the funeral home.Paul H. "Mike" Stegemiller
Paul H. "Mike" Stegemiller, 89, of Dillsboro, formerly of Farmers Retreat, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. He was born May 15, 1918 in Caesar Creek Township to William Stegemiller and Mabel Cutter Stegemiller. He graduated from Versailles High School in the class of 1936. In 1948 he was united in marriage to Carrie L. Cartwright and she preceded him in death in December 1998. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving his country from 1944-1946. He was a farmer and was a Township Trustee for 12 years in Caesar Creek Township.
Preceding him in death besides his wife, Carrie is three brothers, Herbert "Bud", Francis "Fritz" and Howard "Short" Stegemiller. Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Marsh of Greendale and Jeanette Tufts of Cincinnati; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Stegemiller of Greenwood and Mary Jeanette Stegemiller of Cross Plains; nine nieces and seven nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Internment with full military rites was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Marjorie Jean Littell McClain, 78, of Columbus, formerly of Osgood, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Columbus Regional Hospital. She was born February 11, 1930 in Ripley County, the daughter of Harry Cleveland and Lena Pratt Littell. She married Raymond Stanley McClain on March 29, 1947 and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2007.
Survivors include son, James and wife Holly McClain of Madison, AL., two daughters, Nancy Smith of Muncie, Karen and husband David Akers of Columbus, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Five brothers, Earl, Irving, Cecil, Estell and Norman Littell and two sisters, Mildred Pearl Gilland and Lillian Stahl preceded her in death.
Mrs. McClain had worked at US Shoe in Osgood in the early 1960s and operated the Little Folks Shop in Osgood during the 1960s. She also worked as the Matron and Deputy of the Ripley County Sheriff’s office from 1967-1978. She was a charter member of the FOP of Batesville and was a past member of the Osgood Baptist Church.
A graveside burial will be held Thursday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood.

Rita Lamping, 69, of Milan, passed away May 4, 2008 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville. She was born April 24, 1939 in Dearborn County, the daughter of Irvin and Myrtle (Scwipps) Wendelman. She married Raymond Lamping who preceded her in death. One daughter, Jennifer Hoog of Metamora, two brothers, Kenny Wendelman of Osgood and Jim Wendelman of Sunman and one grandchild survive her. Mrs. Lamping was retired from Delta Faucet in Greensburg.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 7 from 5-7 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Cremation will follow at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Hansen Center in Batesville.Virginia Race
Virginia (Virgie) Race, 75, of Milan, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. She was born March 18, 1933 in Rising Sun, the daughter of William T. and Anna (O’Neal) McKinley. She married Sherman Mike Race on December 3, 1949 and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Louden of Milan, Mary Ann Williamson of Milan; two brothers, Charles McKinley of Moores Hill, Duane McKinley of Lake Santee; two sisters, Vickie Antras of Versailles, Linda Ratliff of Tennessee; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Her parents, husband and three brothers, Raymond, Ronald, and Kenneth McKinley preceded her in death.
Mrs. Race was a homemaker and a member of the Washington Baptist Church at Elrod and a member of the Milan Senior Citizens.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in the Craven Cemetery, Milan. Memorials may be given to the Milan Athletic Department or to the Washington Baptist Youth Ministry.Stephanie Elana Michelle Brown
Stephanie Elana Michelle Brown, 1 1/2, of Moores Hill, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Burial will be in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery.Kathleen Anna Marie Vinup
Kathleen Anna Marie Vinup, 81, of Bloomington, formerly of Friendship, died Saturday, May 3, 2008 in Carmel. She was born October 26, 1926 in Friendship, the daughter of Harold Fisse and Louise Knollman Fisse.
Survivors include daughter, Sandra Kay (Joseph) Young of Carmel, son David lee (Diane) Vinup of Avon, brother, Arnold (Alene) Fisse of Florida, sister, Elda (Bob) Moorman of Jonesville and granddaughter, Danielle Vinup.
Her parents, husband Curtis William Vinup and an infant daughter preceded her in death.
Mrs. Vinup was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington and also volunteered for the American Cancer Society. She was a homemaker.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 7 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Farmers Retreat. Funeral services will be held following visitation at 2 p.m. with Rev. Richard Wilkie officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Farmers Retreat.

Ethel L. Cors, 91, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, May 3 at the St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman.
