Captain Robert Kennedy Smith was born in Ripley Co. IN on 12 Nov 1839 and died 8 Oct 1862 at the battle of Perryville, KY. He is buried at Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles. He was an 1860 graduate of Indiana University and was a pharmacist. He was the son of John Wesley Smith and Mary M. Kennedy Smith. Grandson of Robert Kennedy and Elizabeth King Kennedy. Lorenzo Dow Caster enlisted on August 9, 1862 for 3 years of service at Indianapolis by Governor Oliver P. Morton. He was mustered in later on August 9,1862 at Indianapolis by a man named H. B Carrington. Lorenzo lived in Ripley Co. and was a farmer. He was discharged April 16,1863 and the cause listed disability. Lorenzo was in Company F of the 68th Indiana Infantry. There was 5 men by the name of Caster in Company F from Napolean,Indiana . Lorenzo, Benjamin, Gabriel, and Robert Caster, all probably were related. I can not say for sure. James P. Brown in your list of Civil War Vets. He was born May 18, 1838 in Versailles and joined Co.D, 37th Indiana Volunteer Infantry on October 22, 1861 as a Private with his brother Francis Marion Brown and cousin Harrison Brown. The regiment fought in the western theater, taking part in the battles of Stone's River, Chickamauga, Pickett's Mills, Atlanta, Utoy Creek, Jonesboro, and Bentonville. James made it through the entire war without being wounded but was in the hospital several times for illness. He reenlisted as a veteran in March 1864 and mustered out July 25, 1865 in Louisville, Kentucky. Provided by Dan Masters
