          Michael J. Shannon, 42, 405 1/2 W. Main St., Portland, died at his residence Saturday. The Jay County Coroner's office has ruled the death a suicide by hanging.
          Born in Union City on March 15, 1961, to Michael E. and Marsha J. (Rheinhart) Shannon, he was a 1979 graduate of Jay County High School. He was a self-employed artist/contractor.
          Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Marsha and Gary Pusey, Portland; his father and stepmother, Michael E. and Sandy Shannon, rural Bryant; one son, Travis Shannon, Coldwater Lake, Mich.; one daughter, Brooke Hawkins, Hartford City; a brother, Rick J. Shannon, rural Portland; a sister, Mrs. Michael (Sherri) Davis, Orange Park, Fla.; and one grandchild.
          Services are Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Linwood Doane presiding. Burial will take place in the Saratoga Cemetery, Saratoga. Visitation is Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
