Former Minister Dies ----------
Friends here received word from Pierceton Friday, announcing the death of the Rev. Sherman Powell, a former minister of the First M.E. church in Winchester, after a stroke of paralysis. He was stationed at Pierceton at this time.
He began his ministry in 1887 at Elkhart and held pastorates at Orlando, Fort Wayne, Trinity, Winchester, Redkey, Angola, Warsaw, Decatur, Nappanee, Hartford City, Bourbon, Roanoke and Pierceton.
He was on his second year at Pierceton. From 1909 to 1915 he was assistant financial secretary of DePauw university. When in Winchester he was very active in the cause of prohibition and had many loyal friends here.
