JACOB M. BARKER DIES AT MODOC
----------
Jacob M. Barker, one of Modoc's most respected citizens, after five weeks of illness, departed this life on May 23, 1919, aged seventy-two years, seven months and twenty-seven days.  Mr. Barker had been a resident of Modoc many years and was known and liked by every one.  His quiet disposition and cheerful smile made him a friend of everyone.  No one will be missed more than Mr. Barker, always pleasant, always busy, never too tired to say a kind word or do an act of kindness.  His life among the people of Modoc has preached a sermon that will not soon be forgotten.  He still lives in the lives of those who knew him.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday by Rev. Harvey Thornburg and interment at Maxville Cemetery.
