The Winchester DemocratJacob M. Barker, one of Modoc's most respected citizens, after five weeks of illness, departed this life on May 23, 1919, aged seventy-two years, seven months and twenty-seven days. Mr. Barker had been a resident of Modoc many years and was known and liked by every one. His quiet disposition and cheerful smile made him a friend of everyone. No one will be missed more than Mr. Barker, always pleasant, always busy, never too tired to say a kind word or do an act of kindness. His life among the people of Modoc has preached a sermon that will not soon be forgotten. He still lives in the lives of those who knew him.
