MRS. MAHLON BALLENGER
----------
          Mrs. Mahlon Ballenger, 73, died at her home on East North street, early Monday morning. Her husband, Mahlon Ballenger; a sister, Mrs. Marguerite Pursley; two step-sisters, Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Lamb, of Lynn, and one brother, Grant Jackson, of Texas, are survivors.
          Funeral servies were held at the Friends church, Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. Lee Chamness in charge. Burial in Fountain Park cemetery.

James Ballenger  d. 7/29/1877 at his res. in West River twp age 62y 4m 3d. Born near Xenia OH 3/26/1815. When 4 yrs old he moved to Ind., southern part. When 21yrs of age he married Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson on12/1/1836.  He was one of the oldest settlers in the state and familiar with the privations and hardships of life.  A Quaker by faith but attended the Mt. Pleasant M. E. Church. Fun at Economy, Ind. by Rev. W. C. Bowmen. Surv. wife and 6 children. had heart trouble several years.

Margaret A. Ballenger  d. July 1877 committed suicide by taking morphine.  She had recently been discharged from an asylum and was living with her children. Her son Jay Love was absent and she sent his little boy to the drugstore for some morphine. When he came home his mother was very sick and died that night. She was the former widow of Laban Love, married 1/23/1851. He died and she married John Ballenger 4/2/1874.  She was nee Neff.
