A Randolph County Area NewspaperFuneral services will be conducted at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Middleton mortuary in Ridgeville for Charles E. Allen, 49, of Ridgeville, who died Thursday night at Billings hospital in Indianapolis, where he had been a patient one year. Rev. Philip Williams will officiate and burial will be in Fountain Park cemetery in Winchester.

Until his illness Mr. Allen was a postal clerk on the Pennsylvania railroad. He was a veteran of World War I and was a lifelong resident of Ridgeville. During his school days he was a star basketball player for the Ridgeville Cossacks. He was a member of the Portland Legion post.
Surviving are the widow, Flora Belle; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Paucher of Ridgeville, and Susan, at home; one son, Charles Jr., serving in the navy; two grandchildren; his father, Weldon, of Ridgeville; and one brother, Harry, of Newark, Ohio.
The daughter, Susan was stricken with infantile paralysis this year.

A Winchester NewspaperClarence Albert Allen was born January 17, 1887, in Jackson county, Alabama, an departed this life September 16, 1914, at the home of W.S. Hoke in Winchester, Ind. He was educated in the public schools of Winchester where he spent his boyhood days. While young he entered the store of W. S. Hoke and acquired a thorough knowledge of watchmaking.

In 1904 he went to Dayton where he worked about three years at his trade. He went from Dayton to Anderson, Indiana, where he engaged in the jewelry business with different firms, finally establishing a business of his own. He was proficient to such an extent that he secured the watch inspection for three railroads, handling this to the entire satisfaction of both officials and employees.
He was married to Minnie Rex, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Rex, of Anderson. To this union one daughter, Gretchen Louise, was born. Clarence continued in business until his health failed.
Clarence was honest and straight forward in all business dealings. He always had a cheerful "Good Morning" for all he knew and was known for his faculty of always looking on the bright side of things.
"Yes, while we are in life, we are in the midst of Death, and blessed are they who die in the Lord for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven."
He leaves to mourn his death a step-father, mother, two-step-sisters, two brothes, one step-brother besides many other relatives and friends.

She and her husband left N.Y. and came to Ohio where they remained for 2 yrs. then to Randolph Co. She was a member of the M.E. Church They had 9 children..
