Old Lost Hopewell Today

William & Elizabeth Norton Tombstones

Known as the Old Lost Hopewell Cemetery.  Nothing remains of it.  The cemetery was located on the Wayne County line about 1/2 a mile west of County Road 350 East.  The church and new cemetery were relocated in Wayne County.  Known burials are members of the Norton, Coats & Williams families.  Some markers were moved to the new cemetery but no bodies were exhumed or moved.  An uncaring pioneer took some of the markers and put them down as a floor and covered them with cement for his hog house. It is not known how many pioneers are buried here.
Note: The photographs above were contributed by Rodger Norton, great-great-grandson of William and Elizabeth Norton.  The tombstones of William & Elizabeth are now located in the Hopewell Church Cemetery on Hopewell Road in Wayne County, Indiana.
