Half Way House
Source: From the Indiana Album Facebook page
The Half Way House was an inn and restaurant southeast of Greencastle. The yellow poplar log inn that was covered with siding was built in the 1830s as a stagecoach stop on the north side of the Old National Road (U.S. 40) in Mount Meridian, half way between Terre Haute and Indianapolis, hence its name. It was owned by Thomas and Mattie Vermillion for over 40 years. The building was auctioned on August 17, 1946 and disassembled in September.
