Mary Jane Cowgill ZEINER

Source: Newspaper source unknown (Greencastle or Fillmore?)

Mary Jane, daughter of Elisha and Mary Cowgill, was born August 19, 1840. Died December 14, 1912. Aged sixty-three years, three months and twenty-six days.

From a family of twelve children only two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Reeves of Greencastle, Ind. And Mrs. Ollie Talbott, of Springfield, Illinois remain.

On August 24, 1876, she was married to John H. Zeiner. They lived together until January 30, 1904, when the Master, who doeth all things well, called the husband and father to his eternal home.

The seven children born to this couple were; Mrs. Fannie Bunten, Mrs. Susie Lisby, Mrs. Rosa Evans, Mrs. Nellie Nichols, William, Elisha and Little John, who died April 2, 1892, aged one month. These, with fifteen grandchildren, remain to miss the bright loving smile that always greeted them.

She united with the Methodist church when eighteen years of age and the Christian life she lived is surely worthy of invitation.

During her sickness, which lasted more than two years, she often said, I am at peace and every one, Jesus, Blessed Jesus. When her prayer were answered and the death angel came she passed away without a struggle and fell sweetly asleep in Jesus.

NOTE: This obituary was transcribed by Robert Dale Cheetham, great greatgrandson of Mary Jane, great-grandson of Fannie Wiley Zeiner Bunten, grandson of Clarice Irene Bunten Sutherlin, son of Vera Katheryn Sutherlin Cheetham, from a copy of an original provided by Norma Lee Cole Asbury, formerly of Fillmore now residing in New York.
