Moses Wright,
one of Northwestern Holt County’s very best citizens, died suddenly from heart
disease at Corning Monday July 17, 1905. Mr. Wright had gone to Corning
from his farm near Craig on business and
while sitting in front of the WC Pearson’s drug store was stricken, death coming
instantly. Relatives were at once notified and the body removed to the home of
his son, Aaron near Corning from which place funeral services were held,
conducted by Elder Baird of the Craig Christian Church of which organization
the deceased was one of the original members. The deceased was born in Putnam
County, Indiana March 4, 1835 and was therefore in the 71st year of
his age. He came west when quite a young man, locating in Iowa and in 1875,
came to Holt County locating near Craig, where he has since resided. In 1854, he married Miss Sallie Fouts who
died in 1896. By this marriage 10 children were born, 9 of whom together with
21 grandchildren two great grandchildren and three sisters, survive. All the
children were present at the funeral excepting Mrs. Nash Johnstun and Mrs.
Griswold, of Pratt, Kansas. Uncle Mose Wright as he was familiarly called by
his more intimate friends was a splendid citizen in all that the word implies
and Holt County in his death loses one of its truest, highminded Christian
citizens. For nearly 50 years he had been identified with the Christian Church
and in the truest, sense was one of the pillars of that organization in that
section of our county. The interment was in the Parish cemetery. – kbz
