Death is not the sunset of our existence but the sunrise. Again we have been reminded that this life is but the prelude to the eternal. Grieved by the absence of a loved one, we find solace in the teaching of Him who said, Lo I am with you always. Once again the Great Harvester has visited his earthly garden with and garnered for the Home above, a sheaf of golden grain, ripe for the Eternal Granary. We pause in the daily routine of our lives to pay tribute to one who has wandered away into the valley of light to claim his reward for the life lived out upon earth. Mark Woodworth was born July 2, 1872, near Newman Illinois. There he was reared to manhood on a farm by his parents, Samuel D. and Martha Ann Onan Woodworth. While yet a young man he accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church near Newman and in later years he placed his membership in the Brick Chapel Methodist Church where he labored to the best of his ability as health permitted. Dec 1, 1892 he was married to Flora Mae Ogden of Newman, Illinois and they, as one, walked hand in hand, down the pathway of life until in the early morning hours of Feb 17, 1946, he answered the call of his master’s voice and passed from the sunset of today into the sunrise of tomorrow at the age of 72 year 7 months and 15 days. To this couple were born 11 children: Charles Earl of Morton; Loie, wife of Charles Holland of Roachdale; Samuel of Quincy; LaPearle of Renton Washington; Bessie wife of CK Priest of Brick Chapel; Rosa wife of Nelson Hardaker of Tuscson Arizona; James of Veedersburgh; Ralph of Indianapolis and Evaloe of Michigan City. One daughter, Ruth died at the age of 7 also a son, George died in infancy. He also has 36 grandchildren. Six of his grandsons were in the service of their country. He also has one brother, George B. Woodworth, living in Illinoise (sic). He moved with his family to Indiana in the spring of 1904 and came to Putnam County on 1912 where he lived the duration of is life. He was a kindly man, thoughtful of others, hospitable, a good neighbor, and tried to live for the right as he saw it, firm and stanch in his convictions. His life might be well portrayed in the poem by Sam Walter Toss, “The house by the side of the road.” There are hermit souls that live withdrawn, in the place of their self content. There are soul’s like stars that dwell apart. In a fellowless firmament. There are pioneer souls that blaze their paths Where highways never ran – but let me live by the side of the road And be a friend to man …
