The following extracts are from an obituary of WO Wilson, a brother of Miss (sic) George Lucas whose death was noted last week, as published in the Hume (Ill) Record.
Last Friday, just as the shadows of night were enfolding the day, William O. Wilson, the peer of the business life of Hume, passed quietly away at his home after an illness of only a few hours. Apoplexy had caused his death and brought grief and sorrow everywhere. The news passed rapidly from home to home throughout the community and regret was expressed at every hand. No one knew that he was ill, as he had been at the store Thursday, chatting with his friends and neighbors. Mr. Wilson was an everyday Christian. The beautifying influences of a pure religion were spread over a life and character as spotless and as charming as was ever possessed by any of the many noble men who have lived and died during the ages that are gone. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Hume and always took a deep interest in the deliberations of the affairs of the congregation. His loss is a public misfortune to the community, to the Church and to the business life of Hume, as well as an irreperable loss to the home circle made desolate by his departure.
Mr. Wilson was a charter member of the Hume Masonic Lodge, Eastern Stars, Modern Woodmen and Royal Neighbors. He always took a deep interest in the deliberations of these orders, as he did also in other matters pertaining to the prosperity of the community. He was many years a member of the school board and village boards. For many years he has held the post of directors of the Hume Building and Loan Association and at the time of his death was treas. of the organization. His sound judgement and advice given to young men has helped many to acquire homes and perfect a saving by taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the building and loan association share with the people of Hume and his family the loss of a truly good man. The members of the several lodges mourn the loss of a faithful brother who will be greatly missed from their ranks & deliberations.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at 10 o'clock Tues. morning, Rev. DL Jeffers officiating, assisted by Rev TS Mitchell of Kansas Ill and Rev FM Auls of Paris, both former ministers at the local Church and very dear friends and family.
