WILLIAMS, Jesse - Putnam

A life filled with thrills and misfortunes ended yesterday in the death of Jesse Williams for more than 22 years a telegraph operator on the Monon in Crawfordsville. A widow and three children survive.  The condition of Williams’ health was brought about partly by the thrilling experience he underwent while with the railroad company.  Several years ago Williams was attacked by robbers when at work. Later, while he was on duty temporarily at Linden, yeggmen blew the safe and obtained money. Two years ago Williams was attack and severely stabbed.  He was also a passenger on the Monon railroad a few years ago when the train was wrecked. Williams suffered minor injuries then. Williams broke down in health 15 months ago, since which time he had been unable to work. Death came to him yesterday as he was seated in a hammock in the rear of his home – Bloomington Telephone. - kbz
