Source: Roachdale Times newspaper, Roachdale, Putnam County, Indiana 4/4/1940

The span of life is measured by time. March 27, 1868-March 29, 1940- these dates register the life of Nannie Lee Grider. Jordon and Catherine Ratliff Grider, more than eighty-five years ago, settled on a farm near Fincastle, Indiana, where they reared their family of eight children. Here the children grew to manhood and womanhood, attended the Christian church of which the parents were faithful members, and gleaned a sustantial education at the old Grider school, a landmark of the vicinity. Nannie Lee, the youngest daughter, was united in marriage with William Whitted December 27, 1887. A new home was then established on a nearby farm and it was here that two children a son and a daughter, came to bless the union and bring to these parents joy, comfort and happiness. Nannie Grider Whitted was a lifelong member of the Christian church, having professed the faith early in life at the church in Fincastle. In after years she moved her membership to Portland Mills. Besides the loving husband she is survived by a faithful son, Lee Owen Whitted of Rockvill; a devoted daughter, Mrs. Kathryn W. Carver of Alexandria, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are an only sister; Mrs. Effie Swisher of Crawfordsville, and two brothers; James and Lon Grider of Roachdale. One brother and two half-brothers and a half-sister preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted in the home Monday afternoon. Burial was made in Brick Chapel Cemetery
