WELCH, John - Putnam

The name and description of the man who was killed by the cars at Greencastle last Friday correspond exactly with that of one John Welch, who until recently resided with his family in this city.  He was a prominent member of the Knights of labor here and has served several terms as city marshal and constable.  About a year ago the family moved to a rural part of Kentucky where his wife died.  He has not been heard from since.  He was a hard-working, industrious man of temperate habits.  The tattoo marks upon his arms are remembered by his friends here. – kbz

Coroner Smythe has received a letter from OL Welch of ___ Ind making further inquiries about John Welch who was killed at Bainbridge last week by the cars.  The writer thinks the dead man may be his brother, judging from the description printed in the Sun and copied by the Indianapolis papers. The only variation is in the age – the John Welch who recently left being 45 years old instead of 55.   - kbz

Coroner Smythe has received a letter from Mrs. Mary Welch, No 319 Main Street, Cincinnati inquiring about the John Welch who was recently killed at Bainbridge. She thinks it may have been her son.  – kbz
