Funeral services for Oliver Watkins, Greencastle man who died suddenly Saturday night were held at the JE McCurry Funeral Home Tuesday morning, conducted by the Rev. Victor L. Raphael. Pall bearers were Drue Miller, Bert Howard, Cecil Ellis, Dial Marks, Floyd Knauer and Fred Masten. Singers were Mrs. John Young, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Riley and Heber Ellis. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Oliver Charles Watkins, age 50 years died suddenly at his home 512 Elm Street, Sunday morning at 3:15 o’clock after an illness of less than an hour. Head hemorrhages resulting from concussion of the brain was believed to have caused his death. Mr. Watkins had consulted a doctor early Saturday morning when the trouble first developed but improved during the day. About 2:30 o’clock Sunday morning the trouble developed again and death resulted at 3:17 o’clock. Mr. Watkins was born at New Maysville Feb 22, 1877 the son of John H. and Lida J. Watkins and spent his early days in that vicinity. He united with the ME Church in 1897 and has since been a member. He married Julia Belle Stevenson July 11, 1904 and to this union three children: Joseph Harold, age 22; Alta Mae age 19 and Letha Merle, age 17 were born. His first wife died Nov 9 1917 and in Jan 1921 he married Minnie Hudson and the widow and three children survive. A brother, Robert C. Watkins of Greencastle and a sister, Bertha F. Watkins of Connersville also survive. Mr. Watkins was well known in Greencastle and at Roachdale and Bainbridge where he lived for some time after leaving New Maysville and prior to coming to this city. At the time of his death he was employed by the Greencastle Water Works Co. Funeral services will be held from the McCurry Funeral Home Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock conducted by the Rev. VL Raphael.
