DIED – in Greencastle July 19 of dropsy and heart disease, Thomas J. Walls aged 38 years and 3 days.
Thomas J. Walls, city Assessor, died very suddenly though no unexpectedly at his residence in the city last Monday morning about 8 and a half o’clock at the age of 38 years. Mr. Wallas had been a life long citizen of Greencastle and was very highly esteemed by all who knew him. During the several years that he was host of the Putnam House, he gained a large circle of friends, all of whom loved him for his courteous and gentlemanly deportment under all circumstances. About two years ago he suffered from an attack of inflammatory rheumatism and has never since been in good health. For several months he has been able to go about and on the morning of his death he seemed as well as usual and while sitting on a pallet looking out of the widow, his head suddenly dropped over on the window and on going to him he was found to be dead. His funeral took place Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Rev. JW Greene of Terre Haute conducted the exercises.
