Crawfordsville  -Wendell S. Vermilion, 83, of Crawfordsville died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday Jan 11, 2000 in his home. He was born on March 27, 1916 in Putnam County and graduated from Bell Union HS in 1935.  He worked at Crown Cork & Seal and owned a television and radio repair service in Greencastle. He had been an electrician. He served in the Army in the Asian Pacific theater during WWII.  On Jan 10, 1966, he married Violet A. Vermilion. She survivies.

He was a life member of the VFW No 1431, American Legion Post 72, Disabled American Veterans, Fathers Auxiliary at Post 1431, 40&8, Moose No 6 and Ray Gibbons Legion of Moose No 77 in Greencastle.

Surviving with his wife are four sons, Ronald Vermilion, Stephen R. Vermilion, Jerry Vermilion and Danny Vermilion; a daughter, Debbie Burke; two stepchildren, Karolyn Craft and Dale Spore and a sister, Rene Cortrecht all of Greencastle.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. today at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Service there 2 p.m. Friday, Chestesr Logston officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, Grant Ave with VFW graveside services.  Surviving are 37 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild and several cousins. - kbz
