Source: Greencastle Star-Democrat 31 Aug 1906 p3

James M. Vaughn, (sic) son of Joseph and Eleanor Vaughan (sic) was born in Garrard County Kentucky Oct 25, 1831. He departed this life August 13, 1906 at the age of 74 Years 9 Months and 18 Days.  He was a constant sufferer for several years until death grasped the key that unlocks the future and set his spirit forever at liberty, and thus permitted the longing soul to enter into that rest which awaits the children of God.  He was married three times and only one child, a lonely daughter survives him.  He was one of a family of 14 of which number only three remain, the others having one by one been called to their everlasting reward.  He was a soldier in the war of the rebellion, Company C (sic doesn’t give the Regt) until finally receiving an honorable discharge.  He was converted when a young man while living in Kentucky and after emigrating to this state united with the New Providence Church. But soon after the organization of Union Valley he placed his membership with that body where it remained until death.  In his death the community loses one of its respected citizens and the church a faithful member.  He leaves two sisters, one brother, one daughter, a companion and a wide circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.  Thus star by star declines, Till all are passed away. As morning high and higher shines To pure and perfect day. Nor sink those stars in empty night, They hide themselves in Heaven’s own light.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. RE Masten.  - kbz
