George W. Unger, born Nov 23, 1876 and died Dec 27, 1876 and died December 27, 1945.  There is no time that we could set for parting.  We who must remain are never ready for such pain.  Ever our prayer would be: Not yet, dear lord, another day with us let our beloved stay.” We must believe when falls the blow that wisely God has willed it so.  George D. Unger, a son of John and Catherine Lake Unger was born in the Bethehem neighborhood of Haddon Township, Sullivan County, Indiana on Nov 23, 1876.  He attended the schools in Haddon Township and grew to manhood in the community where he was born.  On Nov 3, 1901 George W. Unger and Hattie Hale were united in holy wedlock and God gave to their care 7 children one child dying in infancy.  The Unger family spent the greatest part of their lives in Haddon Township where Mr. Unger was one of the communities most extensive farmers.  He was a tireless worker and used many men to help him in his work, thereby he was an asset to the community in which he lived.  He had the happy faculty of making friends wherever he went and we, who knew him well will ever remember his good jovial disposition and his hearty laughter.  This gathering here today of the many friends and neighbors to pay their last tribute of respect is evidence of the high esteem in which they hold him.  George Unger was a kind, loving husband and father, and a good neighbor.  He was always ready to lend a helping hand where he could be of any service to his fellow man.  His character and reputation were of the highest type.  And he could be counted upon to support and help maintain any enterprise that was for the betterment of mankind.  He was a good man and a leader in any community.  He gave his financial support to worthy causes and to the churches.  In 1932 the Unger family moved to Putnam County near Greencastle, Indiana to make their home on a large farm they owned, but George never forgot his many friends here and he often came back home for short visits.  Mr. Unger died suddenly of heart attack on Dec 27, 1945.  He was aged 69 years ? months and 4 days.  I know not where his island lift – their fronded palms in air – I only know he cannot drift, beyond God’s love and care.  He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Hattie Unger, six children: Richard, Frank, Catherine Unger Calvert, Margaret Unger Trimble, George Jr and Harold Eugene; three grandchildren Doris and Stanley Calvert and Jerry Trimble; four brothers, Morris, William and Frank of Merom, Ind and Charles of Marion, Ind and by a large host of neighbors and friends. It is appropriate that his body has been returned to the community of his birth, where he spent so many happy years, here to rest in beautiful Odd Fellows Cemetery among his friends and neighbors of by-gone years.  (another poem and Card of thanks) –--kbz
