President George W. Groce and Dr. Salem B. Towne of DePauw University at Greencastle, Ind, former associates of Richard S. Tennant who died Tuesday at his home, 824 South Fifth Street will have charge of the funeral services Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock.  Mr. Tennant was for 20 years a member of the board of trustees and active in the affairs of the university.  He was graduated from the university in 167 with high honors and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities. Deceased was born in Putnam County May 12, 1844 coming to Terre Haute in 1871. Deceased served during the Civil War with the 16th Ind Vol and later in the 133rd regiment. He was also commissioned as an officer. He was a member of the Loyal Legion and the Centenary ME Church.  He studied law in the office of Col. Richard W. Thompson. He served one term as prosecutor and later was interested in the development of coal land in Indiana.  He had been recently engaged in the real estate business.  Judge HC Allen of Indianapolis who served in the same company with the deceased in the Civil War and a former classmate at DePauw will be a pall bearer. The others will be Charles Ehrmann, Marshal G. Lee, William Eppert, Frank R. Hale and Emory Bard. - kbz
