The Angel of Death has again entered our community, taking from our midst a darling mother, Louisa, better known as Lydia Swinford.  Born Feb 22, 1874 in Putnam County the daughter of Alexander and Rhoda Jane Varvel Frazier and departed this life, March 17, 1961 aged 87 years and 23 days. She was united in marriage to Wm. Henry Swinford, Feb 19 1893 who preceded her in death March 31, 1020, nearly 43 years ago. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Ruth Shinn; Mrs. Hazel Cox; Mrs. Edna Wyatt; Mrs. Stella Cox and Mrs. Josephine Hanneman.  Her only son, Lacy, preceded his parents to the great beyond Jan 22, 1919. When a young woman, she gave her heart to Christ and was baptized by a minister of the Church of Christ of Long Branch.  In recent years she entered her membership in the local church of Christ. Besides her daughters and sons-inlaw, she leaves 8 grandchildren, Mrs. Bonnie Ruth Shinn Walter of Jermy, Pa; Morris Shinn, Greencastle RR 2; Mrs. Dora Fern Cox Maxwell of Cloverdale; Warren Cox, Greencastle RR 4; Ray Cox, Greencastle; Ralph Gardner Wilson, N. Carolina; Eileen Cox Lady, Largo, Fla; and Jackie Jo Hanneman, Greencastle. 18 great grandchildren, Stephen, Patricia and Alan Walter; Sue and Lance Maxwell; Stephen, John, Nancy, Janet and Joyce Cox; Wayne Barry, Terry and Deby Gardner; Jackie Lee and Kitty Jo Hanneman and Jimmie Lady and little Scott David Lady born since her demise. She also leaves two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Frazier, Greencastle and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Frazier, Terre Haute and several nieces, nephews and friends:
God needed one more mother, To work his plans above
In looking around to find one, He chose the one we loved.
We know that what’er the work will be
It's going to be well done
And He will have no fault to find with his chosen one
My, we are going to miss her, Miss the voice so still,
Sometimes its hard to understand The working of his will
We know it must be for the best
So try to fault to find for during all His workings
We know that He is kind
We’ll meet you later, Mother dear,
You’ve gone ahead awhile
We’ll be waiting anxiously
To see again, your smile.
God has called you up above
To help prepare our home
Someday together we will be
Singing around His throne;
Until that time we’re going to be
As you would have us be,
We only need to close our eyes
Then you dear face to see
“Just so tired,” was all she said, Her worries almost past
“Just so tired,” she fell asleep Sweet rest it came at last.
So we leave you Mother dearest
Fast asleep beneath the sod,
For a few more years we’ll linger
O’er the path which you have trod.

We wish to thank Dr. Tipton, the Hopkins-Walton Funeral Home, The Church of Christ, Rev. Lewis Willis, the singers and the Maple Heights Home Ec Club for the food, the friends, neighbors and relatives for the many beautiful floral offerings – the Swinford Family

In Memoriam of Wm. Hhenry and Louisa Swinford and son Lacy.  Mother and father and an only brother
Have left us five alone
We're traveling along not far from each other
Toward our heavenly home
We often speak of the good old days
When we were altogether
A poor house in many ways
But still we loved each other.
The years are passing oh so fast
And time brings many changes
But love and faith all time but last
And so our Lord arranges
The five sisters: Ruth, Hazel, Edna, STella and Josephine
