SWARTZ, Simon - Putnam

Simon P. Swartz, 74 years old, died at his home, 5 miles southeast of Terre Haute at 4:45 o’clock yesterday afternoon. He leaves a widow, Priscilla Swartz; a daughter-in-law, three brothers: Michael Swartz of Olney, Ill; John of Putnam County, Ind and James of 800 North Eighth street.  Mr. Swartz had been a resident of Indiana all his life and was one of the pioneers in the building up of the state He was born in Putnam County Sept 30, 1837 and married Priscilla Watson Jan 8,m 1863. Leaner L. Swartz, the only child of this couple died July 27, 1906.  Mr. Swartz and his family moved to Vigo Co in March 1864 and took up their home on the farm where Mr. Swartz died. Mr. Swartz united with the Methodist Church in Putnamville in 1856 and was a prominent member of the Mt. Pleasant Church for 48 years.
