Kathleen (Evens) Strain, wife of the late Daniel E. Strain, Sr of 1403 Shallcross Avenue, Wilmington age 86 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home 1000 N. DuPont Parkway Wilmington Manor on Monday morning May 24 at 11, interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. Wilmington – United Cerebral Palsy volunteer Kathleen E. Strain died Wednesday of heart failure at home. She was 86. After her son, William H was involved in a car accident that resulted in brain damage, Mrs. Strain turned her efforts to volunteerism, family members said. Mrs. Strain once said, “We who work for and with these children love them because they are children and we have to admire them for their tremendous courage. Let us help instead of making things harder for them.”  Mrs. Strain of 1403 Shallcross Avenue, The Hamilton House, formerly of Talley Road headed the state campaign for funds in the fight against cerebral palsy. In 1960, she was elected president of the board of directors of United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware. She was appointed to the UCP’s national campaign committee in 1961.  She received a citation from UCP Teens of Delaware. She was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee for the board of trustees of Delaware State Hospital. She received a certificate of merit from the hospital in 1968 for her volunteer work. She received awards of merits for loyal service to American Red Cross in 1960 and 1961.  Her husband, Daniel E, Sr, died in 1967.  A son, Daniel E died March 9 and her daughter K. Eloise Traneerg died in 1983.  She is survived by a son, William H of Wilmington; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Highway, Wilmington Manor.  Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, North DuPont Highway, Minquadale.
