The community was saddened Friday afternoon by the sudden death of one of the most popular teachers of the high school, Mrs. Eula A. Stoops, teacher of mathematics. She was forced to resign her position a week ago last Wednesday because of ill health. Her condition immediately became critical. Several yeaers ago during a basketball game she suffered an injury which later necessitated an operation. However, her condition was not relieved and she has been in failing health since. Mrs. Stoops died at her home, 533 Anderson Street about 4:30 Friday afternoon. She was 44 years of age last Sept 13 and is survived by her husband, James F. Stoops; one son, James and two sisters, Mrs. AC Ford of Michigan and Mrs. Minnie Eaton of Dana. Mrs. Stoops until her marriage resided at Dana, her girlhood home. After her marriage to Mr. Stoops she has resided in Greencastle and for the past 10 years has taught in the local high school. She graduated from Indiana State Normal at Terre Haute and studied at DePauw. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star Lodge and DAR and was a very active worker in all. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist Church with Rev. Victor L. Raphael, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in charge. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Curry Inman, ER Bartley Sam Hanna, Warren J. Yount, John Dunlavy, Frank N. Jones. Flower bearers will be the women members of the HS faculty. ~~~transcribed by kbz
