Two men by the names of William T. Matkin and John Stewart quarrelled over a game of cards at Pleasant Garden, Putnam County, last Friday when Matkin settled the matter by shooting Stewart through the heart. He then handed his pistol to a bystander, mounted his horse and rode off. No effort was made to arrest him. - kbz
