STEELE, Oka William - Putnam

Oka William Steele, 79, former Crawfordsville resident died Sunday afternoon at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago. He had been living in Chicago since 1929. Born Feb 29, 1896, in Putnam County, he was the son of Lafayette and Elizabeth Ragsdale Steele. He was married in 1929 to Marie Brugge. He was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Masonic Lodge. While living in Crawfordsville, he was employed by the Standard Oil Co. He has been working with the same firm in Chicago since 1929. The survivors include the widow and four brothers, Walter Steele of Bainbridge, Gayle Steele of Crawfordsville, Cecil Steele of New Market and Kenneth Steele of Linnsburg. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Greeley. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
