Resolutions of sympathy tendered by members of Greencastle WRC No 23 to family of James Steele:

Whereas, it has pleased God to remove from the walks of men the husband of our beloved sister, Mary Steele who died April 8, 1896, thereby severing the tie that so long bound us in mutual friendship.

Resolved that in the death of Comrade James Steele we lost a consistent and devoted comrade one who was ever ready to extend a helping hand to those in need and to battle for virtue and morality. That his honored virtues will ever be cherished in the hearts of his friends, the members of the Relief Corps of which his wife is a member. That we tender to the bereaved family our “sincere sympathy” and point them to one who hath said that “He would be a husband to the widow and a father to the fatherless,” for the consolation which the world cannot give.
That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family and a copy be spread upon the minutes of this corps.  Committee: Martha H. Little, Hattie R. Moore, Lilly M. Ashton
