STEELE, Martha Ellen Blaydes Elsberry - 1929 - Putnam

Mrs. Martha Ellen Steele, wife of Edgar C. Steele, died at her home, one and one half miles south of Barnard in north Putnam County yesterday morning at 10:50 o'clock.  An illness of brain disease caused her death.

Mrs. Steele was born in Hardin county, KY April 9, 1860, the daughter of John S. and Nancy Blaydes. She was married first to Silas C. Elsberry Oct. 14, 1880. He died Feb 14, 1885 and she was remarried to Edgar C.

Steele Feb 8, 1896.

Mrs. Steele's mother died when she was 18 months old and she was reared in Shelby County, KY by her grandmother Blaydes. She came to Indiana when grown and made her home with her brothers until she was married.  The remainder of her life was spent in Putnam and Hendricks counties.  She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Barnard.

Besides the husband she leaves six children: Mrs. Claude Smith and Mrs. Homer Morphew of Roachdale; Mrs. Fred McIntyre of Indianapolis; Mrs. Charles Riddle of Barnard; Mrs. Raymond Bidgood of Lizton and William

Elsberry of Little Rock, Ark. A brother, J.T. Blaydes of Barnard also survive.   --- kbz
