Jeremiah Steele, age 84 years, died at 2 o’clock Thursday morning after a short illness. Death was caused by paralysis. Mr. Steele formerly resided here but for the past few years has been living at Crawfordsville. About two weeks ago he came here to visit his niece, Mrs. William Welch, west Jacob street. A few days later he suffered a stroke and died at her home. Mr. Steele was a Civil War veteran having seen service in Company B, Indiana Infantry. He was an active member of the GAR and took part in its activities. He is survived by the widow and a daughter, Mrs. EF Brown of Los Angeles, Cal and several nieces, Mrs. Welch, Mrs. PR Christie of North College Ave, Mrs. LF Treat and Mrs. Luella Fry of Ben Davis; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jennie Steele, Chestnut Street. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church with interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Rev VL Raphael will be in charge of the services. - kz
