Mrs. Ellen
Steel, mother-in-law of Mrs. Sue Steel died Saturday morning at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Joe Mills living east of Richmond, after a long and painful
illness with cancer. Mrs. Sue Steel was much at her bedside to render any
assistance possible to make the sufferer comfortable. Mary Ellen McVey was born
in Putnam County, Indiana in 1840. She
with her husband came to Kansas in an early day before the civil war and
settled near where the Baker church now stands. Her husband died about 15 years
ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joe Mills, six grandchildren and
five great grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Baker
Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Whitlow and used as a text for his
discourse Ps: 23:4 as requested by the deceased. She was a member of the Baker
Church and burial was in Baker cemetery beside that of her husband. - kbz
