Mrs. Ellen Steel, mother-in-law of Mrs. Sue Steel died Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Mills living east of Richmond, after a long and painful illness with cancer. Mrs. Sue Steel was much at her bedside to render any assistance possible to make the sufferer comfortable. Mary Ellen McVey was born in Putnam County, Indiana in 1840.  She with her husband came to Kansas in an early day before the civil war and settled near where the Baker church now stands. Her husband died about 15 years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joe Mills, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Baker Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Whitlow and used as a text for his discourse Ps: 23:4 as requested by the deceased. She was a member of the Baker Church and burial was in Baker cemetery beside that of her husband. - kbz
