James Spurgin is minus 15 ½ pounds of good solid flesh, caused by a recent attack of sickness. But plenty of his famous turtle soup will soon restore it.

James Spurgin had an apopletic stroke on Sunday that completely paralyzed his face and the right side of his body His recover is improbable. He is no better this morning. Note: he died about a week later

Mr. James Spurgin, the well-known artist, son of DM Spurgin was stricken Sunday morning at about 11 o’clock with paralysis and his condition is regarded by his physician, Dr. Smythe as critical. The stroke effects the right side of his body and face and he has been unable to speak since. There is but little improvement in his condition thus far.

James Spurgin has in his possession a Maximilian Mexican silver dollar of the issue of 1869 on which he has discovered there is a premium of over $200. It was given to him by his brother about 16 years ago and is a very rare coin.
