Waveland, June 23 – John A. Spruhan, 78, well known resident of this place passed away at his home Saturday night at 9 o’clock after an illness of six months.  Death was due to internal cancer.  The deceased was born in Dunlapsville, Ohio on Feb 9, 1852, the son of Garnett and Margaret Spruhan.  He was first married to Joan Bohannon of Camden, Indiana on May 1, 1879 and to Laura Clark on July 25, 1894.  He was a member of the Waveland ME Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star, the Modern Woodmen and the Tribe of Ben Hur.  He was agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad here for 46 years, retiring at the age of 70.  Surviving are six children: Katie Garland of Willows, Cal; Fred Spruhan of Detroit, Mich; Madge Goodwin of Waveland; Guy Spruhan of Salem, Va; Maynard Spruhan of Chicago; and Julia Moore of Kokomo, Ind; and one brother, Henry of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Painter and Miss Macie Spruhan of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Funeral services were held at the Spruhan home in Waveland Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock.  Burial was in the Waveland cemetery.  --- transcribed by  kbz
